He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew O'Brien and Thelma Snethen O'Brien; his brother Jerry O'Brien; his daughter Jamie Ullery; and his grandson Alex O'Brien.
He is survived by: his wife Joann Barngrover; his children, Kim Davis of Scranton, Kimberly O'Brien of Lawrence and Patrick O'Brien of Lawrence; and his siblings, Donald O'Brien of Topeka and Wilma Kramer of Carbondale. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
