He was predeceased by: his parents, Jeff Coots and Bonnie Coots; and his brother Michael Wayne Coots. He is survived by: his children, Angela Coots of Afton, OK, Shannon Reynolds (Phil) and Jason Coots (Meredith); his grandchildren, Jase, Devyn, Sam Coots, Maddie Reynolds, Avery Maris and Aidan Maris; and his siblings, Jodi Lucke (Mike) of Osage City, KS, Sue Bailey of Sierra Vista, AZ and Scott Coots. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund is being created in his name dedicated to Future Music Educators.
