He was loved and cherished by many people including : his parents, William Long and Dorothy Long (Grothaus) of Smith Center; his daughters, Kaitlynne Abigail and Bre'Oona Marie; his great-great-grandparent Sims; his sister Nancy Kay Long; his grandparents, Jay, Margaret Long (Cunningham), John and Goldie Grothaus (Sims); his wife Gina Long of Smith Center; his daughters, Rebecca Favinger (Michael F.) of Hays, Kaitie Long (Cody R. Anschutz) of Hays and Oona Long of Smith Center; his siblings, Mark Long of Smith Center and Lisa Long of St. Joseph, MO; and his grandchildren, Kathleen, Lucas and Samuel.

Memorials may be given to John J. Long Memorial Fund and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
