He was predeceased by : his parents, Dan McKinney, Sr. and Ellen McKinney (Lewis); his siblings, Betty Jo Hugar (Charles) of Apache, OK, Donna Poore (Tyrone) of Ponca City, OK and Danny Boy McKinney of Oklahoma; and his son Jack McKinney.

He is survived by : his wife Ellen; and his children, Troy McKinney (Amber) of Mayetta, KS, Sam McKinney (Rachel), Phillip McKinney, James McKinney, Dan McKinney, Jr., Mona McKinney (David) of Soldier, KS and Lola Wilson of Topeka, KS. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
