He was predeceased by : his parents, Frances Bassett (Carlat) and James F. Bassett. He is survived by : his wife Donna Thies; his children, John Bassett, Susan L. Whipple, Michael and Sara Bassett; his grandchildren, Lilly Bassett, Donna Whipple and Galen Whipple; his siblings, Rich, Kay Bassett, Jan and Tony Valdez; and his nieces and nephews, Doug, Lisa Bassett, Brad, Dana Bassett, Debbie, Shawn Lietz, Missy, Dave Tew, Ginny Boogaard, Bill, Michelle Valdez, Tom Valdez, Gail and Mike Mangan.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Penwell-Gabel - Mid-Town Chapel (1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604). A memorial service was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
