He was predeceased by : his sister Mary Norma Schulte of Spearville, KS; his parents, Rubie Mae Hess and Rosallie "Sallie" J. Hess; his son Dale Hess; and his brothers, Howard Hess, Harold Hess and Dallas Hess.

He is survived by : his spouses, Rubie Mae Koontz and Rosallie "Sallie" Hess; his daughter Lonetta Brandes (Bob) of Deerfield, KS; and his daughter-in-law Connie Hess of Holly, CO. He is also survived by 2 step-children; 4 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
