He was predeceased by : his wife Teresa Avila; his siblings, Jessie Guerrero, Urban Avila, Roman Avila, Cora Abney, Juby Moreno and Virginia Nicholas; his son-in-law Emmett Haddox; and his grandchildren, Arthur "Chico" Bergquist and Keely Rae Stephens.

He is survived by : his children, Ray Avila, Jr. (Norma), Steve Avila (Mary), Carolyn Bergquist (Steve), Victoria Haddox and Elisa McKnight (Loren); and his siblings, Carmen Powell, Betty Trujillo, Frank Avila and Victoria Estrada. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
