Vickie Lynn Willey Obituary
Vickie Lynn Willey, age 66, passed away on January 26th, 2025, with her beloved sons by her side. She was a dedicated mother, loving sister and daughter, and caring friend.
Vickie was born on July 24th, 1958, and was the third of four children born to Robert Van Wagher and Carolyn Sue Wagher. She grew up and spent most of her life in Wichita, along with her siblings Gary, Dennis, and Staci. Vickie loved her family deeply, and spoke often of the wonderful adventures they would go on when she was a child. She met her best friend, Beverly, at a young age, and remained friends with her to the end.
Vickie graduated from South High in 1976, and went on to work for the State of Kansas, in a position related to social services. She found her work to be quite gratifying, and made many friends within her company.
After marrying Don Willey in 1982, Vickie was blessed with two amazing boys, Joshua Michael Willey and Adam Van Willey. Though she and Don divorced, she did her absolute best to raise her boys into great men. She doted on her sons, making personal sacrifices to ensure that they had everything they needed and more. At one point, she worked three separate jobs and still made it to every single sports practice and game for her boys.
Even as her sons grew, so did her love for them. Her world focused around them, with countless family game nights, and hours of watching Kansas City Chiefs games. She took it upon herself to raise them under the wing of her faith, alongside the community of the 47th Street Church of Christ. She profoundly respected the church’s leader, Byron Barrientez.
After her sons were grown, they each granted her the greatest treasures possible. Her grandson, Alexander Michael Willey, and her granddaughter, Terryn Luna Willey. She loved her grandchildren just as fiercely as she loved her boys. Everything she did was for the benefit of her family.
Throughout Vickie’s fight with her health, she met a great number of nurses, facility staff, and fellow patients that fell in love with her, and became her loyal friends. Vickie was immensely grateful for the companionship and compassion that was shown to her, and she always looked forward to sharing tidbits of gossip and snacks with anyone that stopped in to see her.
Vickie was preceded in death by her father Bob and her brother Gary. All those left behind love and miss her dearly, and hope to see them all again one day.
The family thanks everyone for their support at this time. A service in Vickie’s honor will be held at the 47th Street Church of Christ on Saturday February 8th at 1pm. In lieu of any gifts or flowers, please consider making a donation to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program (BBBS.org).
