He was predeceased by: his parents, Ora Hughes and Mary Eliza Newell Hughes; his siblings, Gene Hughes, Julian Hughes and Wanda Hedrick; and his great grandchild Connor Jude Hughes.

He is survived by: his wife Josephine McKee Hughes; his children, Pamela Sullivan (David) of Fairview, TN and Duane Hughes (Lori) of Ashland; his sister-in-law Jeanette Hicks (James) of Lexington, KY; his grandchildren, Christin Lotz, Austin Hughes, Jeremy Sullivan and Lauren Hughes; and his great grandchildren, Christian Hughes, Carson Hughes and Harper Lotz.
