He was predeceased by: his parents, John Mitchell and Margie Albright McDowell. He is survived by: his wife Juanita "Nita" Brown McDowell of Ashland; his children, John Mark McDowell (Gretchen) of Ashland and Marcella "Marcie" Oliver (Scott) of Louisville; his brother Roy McDowell (Kim) of Ashland; his grandchildren, John Daniel "J. D." McDowell (Hannah), Hannah R. McDowell, Emily P. McDowell and Gemma L. Oliver; and his great grandchild John David Asher McDowell.
