He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil H. Lester and Hazel Lester (Holbrook); and his siblings, Virgil Jr. and Helen Holbrook. He is survived by: his wife Janet Lester (Greene); his children, Kolin, Erin Nolte and Keri Childrey; his grandchildren, Kevin, Elizabeth, Amy, Emily and Samantha; and his sisters, Karen Wiley and Hollis Wilcox. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
