He was predeceased by: his parents, Rufus Johnson and Sallie Johnson (Grove); his wife Ruth Johnson; his children, Ronnie Johnson, Nancy and Carolyn Johnson; and his siblings, Dorothy Johnson Smith, Sue Ella Flowers, George Johnson, Luther Johnson, Willie Johnson, James Johnson, Lawrence Johnson, Robert Johnson, Lonie Johnson and Leroy Johnson.
He is survived by: his children, Charles Jr. Johnson (Ella), Phillip Johnson, Faye Dunn and Melinda McCullough; and his sister Annie Richardson. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grand-children.
