He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther "Duke" Lawson and Mary Elizabeth Lawson; his siblings, Estes Lawson, Charlie Lawson, Essie Siler, Flora Mahan and Dewie Bowlin; and his siblings-in-law, J. C. Bowlin and Ruth Lawson.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Lawson of Corbin, KY; his daughter Maxine Helmick (Greg Bray) of Corbin, KY; his grandsons, Scott Bray (Emily) of Weeki Wachee, FL and Casey Bray (Kelsey) of Richmond, KY; his great grandchildren, Gavin Bray of Richmond, KY, Jaxon, Dawson Bray of Richmond, KY and Jackson Bray of Weeki Wachee, FL; his siblings, Robert Lawson, Danny Ray Lawson, Geneva Mays, Pearl Monhollen and Emma Rains; his stepsister Vonnie Rhodes Jones; and his sisters-in-law, Wilma Jean Strunk and Glenda Lawson.
