He was predeceased by: his mother Freda Alsip of Corbin; his stepfather TJ Alsip of Corbin; his siblings, Sue Faulkner, Brenda Alsip of Corbin, Melvin Owens and Jesse Owens of Michigan; and his grandmothers, Sarah Alsip of Corbin, Dora Woodall of Woodbine and Susie Earls of Lexington.
He is survived by: his children, Stephanie Owens, Tommy Owens (Teresa) and Mike Owens (Tammy); his grandchildren, Jasmine, Caleb, Caden, Columbus, Precious, Elijah, TJ, Liam and Brytyn; his siblings, Dennis Alsip (Judy), Mike Alsip of Corbin, Ken Owens (Katherine) of Michigan, Devon Owens of Florida, Diane Duncan (Jim) of Winchester, Marilyn Hiltabidel of Ohio and Dora Owens of Michigan; his close friends, Ancil Carter (Ellen) and Randall Carter (Marilyn) of Woodbine; and his aunt Ann Carroll of Corbin.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Layton's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
