He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Henry and Irene DelVecchio Mekus. He is survived by: his wife Spes Mullen Mekus; his children, Patrick Francis Mekus (Katie Jo Ann), Menominee, Dr. Cara Jeanne (Matthew) and Richmond; his siblings, Lynne Ann Gates (William Gates, III) and Mark Timothy Mekus (Lori Anita); and his grandson Maxwell Alexander Hill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
