He was predeceased by: his parents, Jay Burton and Melinda Waggoner Burton; and his siblings, Freda Conley and Dennie Burton. He is survived by: his wife Charlene Bird Burton of Huntington; his children, Steve Allen Burton of Olive Hill, Sybrenia Burton (Ray Hagley) of Ironton, OH and Maria Burton (Randy Kinnard) of Culloden, WV; his siblings, Rosemary Lloyd of Louisville, KY, Ruby Doyle, Carolyn Carter of Grayson and Clayton Burton of Grayson; and his stepchildren, David Burton of Huntington, WV, Teresa Stewart (Ron) of Barboursville, WV and Vicki Hayes (David) of Ona, WV. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
