He was predeceased by: his significant other Reed Godfrey; his parents, William Garland and Ina Garland; his siblings, John Garland and Mary Margaret Griffey; and his nephews, Mike Riley and Robert Riley.
He is survived by: his siblings, Sammy Garland and Willie Mae Honshul; his nephews, Kevin Garland, Brian Garland, Steve Smith, Carl Smith and Jerry Riley; and his close friend Betty Godfrey.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 29th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - E. Main (463 E Main St, Lexington, KY 40507). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 29th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in James's memory are suggested to The Lexington Humane Society and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
