It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Verla Jean Davis Oakes of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, who passed away on April 15, 2024, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by : her parents, Cecil Carter and Flora Mae Sebastain Davis; her daughter Jeanne Marie Oakes; her brother Ronald Edward Davis; and her parents-in-law, Thomas Cecil and Della Mae Speake Oakes.

She is survived by : her husband Bennie M. Oakes of Lexington; her children, Marsha Ann Oakes Eden (Michael W. Eden) of Nicholasville and Samuel Timothy (Tim); her granddaughters, Shelby Elizabeth Deal Nicholasville (Mitch Deal), Taylor Jeanette Barnes (Seth Barnes) of Lexington, Katie Michelle Ferrier Nicholasville (Elliott Ferrier), Savanna Katherine Oakes and Hallie Grace Oakes; and her great grandchild Lincoln Wesley Barnes.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 23rd 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Centenary Church (2800 Tates Creek Rd, Lexington, KY 40502). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 24th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, April 24th 2024 at 12:45 PM at the Hillcrest Memorial Park (2089 Versailles Rd, Lexington, KY 40504).
