He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilburt A. Colburn and Mary Helen Dunn (Stringer); and his stepfather Tony "Pops" Dunn. He is survived by: his wife Connie Colburn (Fambrough); his children, Sherry Colburn of Whitesville, KY and Gary Wayne Colburn, Jr. of Owensboro; his stepson Alvie Garrett of Clay, KY; and his siblings, Courtland Joe Colburn (Lois) of Owensboro, Robert L. Colburn (Pat) of Warren, MI, Gloria Jean Payne (Larry) of Owensboro, Shelia M. Short of Philpot, KY, James Michael Colburn of Philpot, KY, Steve Patrick Colburn of Mocksville, NC and Bryan D. Colburn (Mary) of Owensboro. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
