He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Scharfenberger and Catherine Rottman Scharfenberger; and his siblings, Dorothy Reedy and Ernest Scharfenberger. He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Scharfenberger; his children, Dr. Donald Edward "Ed" Scharfenberger, Jr. (Deena), Betsy Shelburne, Katie Bonn (Chris) and Mary Ann Taylor (Anthony); his grandchildren, Dustin, Josh Hall, Paige, Nick Scharfenberger, Sebastian (Sarah), Reed, Haleigh Taylor, Christopher, Caroline and Jillian Bonn; and his sister Cathy Corzine.
