He was predeceased by : his former life partner Adalene Marasco Taylor; his sons, Raymond Louis Taylor and Ricky Taylor; and his parents, James Louis, Sr. and Annie Lee Taylor.

He is survived by : his wife Judith Sample Taylor; his stepchildren, Dwayne Warren (Melissa) of Hazel, KY, Paula Cathey (John) of Murray, KY and Stacy Poe (Jonathan) of Benton, KY; and his sister Brenda Taylor of Mississippi. He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
