He was predeceased by: his wife Susan Elizabeth Woodward Benfield; his parents, George H. Benfield Sr. "Bus" and Alma L. Adams Benfield "Lil"; his siblings, George Benfield Jr. and Jeannie Moore (John); and his son-in-law Dana Hicks.
He is survived by: his children, John J. Benfield III (Rachel), Brian S. Benfield (Amanda), Greg M. Benfield (Heather) and Keth E. Hicks; his grandchildren, Cameron, Conner, Madisen (Dakota), Addison (Cooper), Scotty, Drew, Nick, Lilli, Amanda (Raj) and Matthew (Dionne); his great grandchildren, Isaiah, Joseph, Elijah, Dexter and Cannon; and his siblings, Frankie Young (Rick), Jo Singleton (Mike) and Ricky Mohan (Diane).
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Ratterman Southwest Funeral Home (4832 Cane Run Rd, Louisville, KY 40216). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 26th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
