He was predeceased by: his parents, Arnold McMurray and Juanita Collins McMurray; his sister Barbara Johns Capps; his brother-in-law Rufus Cook; and his nephews, Lee Graves and Adrian Witherspoon.

He is survived by: his sister Verdie McMurray Cook; his nieces, Michelle Graves, Angie Newman, Jackie Massengill (David), Melissa Witherspoon (Jonathan Price) and Kelly Butler (Bobby); and his nephew Jason Capps (Maryanna).
