He was predeceased by : his former life partner Elizabeth Ann Huff Porter; his siblings, Barbara Grubb and Johnny Gayle Porter; and his grandparents, Will and Myrtle Ferrell.

He is survived by : his wife Kathy Shoemake Porter of Quality, KY; his stepson Corey Shoemake of Russellville, KY; his granddaughter Erin Shoemake of Bowling Green, KY; and his sister Brenda Kirby of Morgantown, KY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
