He was predeceased by: his parents, David Hackworth and Judy Hale Hackworth; his brothers, Owen and David Curtis; and his wife Emma Rose Hackworth.

He is survived by: his daughter Kendra Shanks; his siblings, Allen Hackworth (Shirley) and Tammie Combs (Al); and his close friend Alan Shanks. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
