He was predeceased by: his parents, Heinrich Michalek and Elfriede Michalek; and his siblings, Horst Michalek, Heinz Michalek and Marita Cisewski.

He is survived by: his wife Karen Michalek; his children, George Michalek (LeeAnn), Christine Suedkamp (Barry) and Nichole Hefty (Lee); his sisters, Gertrude Altkemper and Elfriede Geers; and his granddaughters, Kierstin, Alyssa, Delaney, Jessi and Alicia.
