He is survived by: his wife Susan; his children, Mike (Harriet), Pete (Brandi), Beth (Weston) and Daniel (Nicki); his grandchildren, Lily, Mason Boone, Hunter and Ricky Carey; his children, Joe, Ben, Will, Zel, Agnes, Max, Maria Carey and Lucy Amos; his siblings, Mark, Mike Carey (Joyce) and Jennifer Falk; and his nieces, Julie Falk and Marianne Wilburn.

Visitation was held on Friday, August 1st 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Blackburn & Ward Funeral Home (161 Broadway St, Versailles, KY 40383). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the St. John's Episcopal Church North Main (210 N Main St, Versailles, KY 40383).

His diverse pursuits included studying German in Austria, playing the piano, participating in bridge tournaments, running a marathon, writing editorials, publishing a book, donating to various causes, and taking postdoctoral elective classes at the University of Kentucky for over a decade.
