She was predeceased by: her parents, Avery Fortenberry, and Elaine LeBlanc Fortenberry, Sr.; her sons, Benjamin Bruce, James Bruce and Silas Bruce; and her sister Louann Shulker.

She is survived by: her sons, Robert Bruce (Tonya), Joseph "Eddie" Bruce (Beth) and John Kevin Bruce; and her siblings, Avery Fortenberry, Jr., Linda Connella (Bootsie) and Lester Fortenberry (Marie). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
