He was predeceased by: his wife Joycelyn "Joyce" Hidalgo Smith; his parents, Ulysses Pinell and Mary Juanita Pinell; and his brother Richard "Smut" Smith. He is survived by: his son Richard "Rick" Smith (Shelly); his grandsons, Derrick Smith and Logan Smith; his stepgranddaughter Kaitlyn Galloway; and his sister Vickie Thomassie. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
