She was predeceased by: her husband J. W. Shumate; her grandson Tony Smith; and her great grandchildren, Jonathan McCandish and Jennifer Courson. She is survived by: her children, Geneva Smith of Bastrop, LA, Ellen Fairchild of Epps, LA, Joann Higgs (Ray) of Raymond, MS and Joe Shumate (Thelma) of Pioneer, LA; and her sisters, Lucy Nipper of Albuquerque, NM and Pearl Decker of New York. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.
