He was predeceased by: his mother Mary Eloise Walthall Knighten. He is survived by: his wife Pam Knighten; his father J. W. Knighten; his brother Dennis Knighten (Judy); and his children, Tara Ambrose (Vince), Ray Sylevestri (Laurie), Charlie Vanderberg (Laura) and Dr. Hunter Vanderberg (Elizabeth). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and extended family.
