He was predeceased by: his parents, Atwell "Champ" Champion and Venetta "Van" Gest Champion; and his sister Charlotte Champion Freeland. He is survived by: his wife Estella Olivier Champion; his children, J. Christopher Champion (Ana), Anna Champion Courville (Jeffery) and Beau A. Champion (Jenny); his brother-in-law Joseph Freeland; and his sibling's children, Fran Yannity and Clint Freeland.
