With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Nellie Hortense Stewart Kennedy of Independence, Louisiana, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on October 28, 2025 at the age of 81. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her son Joseph L. Smith Jr. "Jay" (Chasity R. Kennedy); her parents, Elbert Stewart and Myrtle Stewart; and her siblings, Jimmy Stewart, Mannie Stewart, Clifton Stewart, Billy Stewart and Shirley Stewart Randall.
She is survived by: her sister Jane Odette Sullivian; her children, Cheryl L. Ferriell, Laura J. Allen (Blake Allen), Carla J. Smith (Gary Palmer), Michelle L. Dunn (Ronnie Dunn) and Chas B. Kennedy "Biscuit" (Heidi Kennedy); and her grandchildren, Jeremy McCreary, Jarrett Addison, Dakota Bankston, Justin Bankston, Charlie Kennedy, Shelby and Hannah Kennedy. She is also survived by eleven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 31st 2025 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Lighthouse Baptist Church Cemetery (30969 Horseshoe Rd, Independence, LA 70443). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 31st 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, October 31st 2025 at 2:30 PM at the Bankston Cemetery (33785 LA-43, Independence, LA 70443).
