He was predeceased by: his parents, Eli Bessard and Norma Bessard; his sons, Wade, Ricky and Merlin; his sisters, Lorraine Celestine, Barbara Jones, Leola Scott and Eunice Jackson; his aunt Leontine Hebert; and his uncle Lloyd Hebert.

He is survived by: his wife Iona Richard Bessard; his children, Donald P. Richard (Siria), Blandon Richard, Aaron Richard, Donna Guillory and J'Sadies Meaux; his sister Louether Cooper (Penny); and his grandchildren, Kyra, Blandon, Jr., Jayden, Cristian, Tahj, Camron, Camila, Roscelyn, Justin, Kollyn, Daniel, Kayla, Jacynia, Aaron, Jr., Ricky, Ryder, Kiara, Spencer, Kaleb, Makayla and Joleen. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
