He was predeceased by: his former wife Wilma Hensgens Leonards; his parents, Lawrence Leonards and Annie Zaunbrecher Leonards; his siblings, Josephine Cramer, Rita Leonards, Johanna Leonards, Lidwina Leonards, William Leonards, Norbert Leonards, Vincent Leonards, Raymond Leonards, Benno Leonards and Dennis Leonards; his grandson Eric Grotefend; and his son-in-law James Simon.

He is survived by: his wife Loretta Smith Leonards; his children, Jude Leonards (Kelly), Janet Grotefend (David), Jeff Leonards (Debra), Donna Sarver (Brent), Beth Simon, Susan Albritton (Mike) and Kathrina Leonards Vidrine; his siblings, Mary Ann "Rusty" Leonards, Catherine Huesers and Wilfred Leonards; and his sister-in-law Alberta Lyons. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren.
