He was predeceased by: his wife Therese Laperouse Wood; his parents, Paul Atherton Kennon and Madge Justine Morton Kennon; and his great grandchild Karis Lynee Wood. He is survived by: his children, Herbert "Shine" Wood (Lisa) of Midland, TX, Sherry "Honey" James (Ricky) of Lafayette and Angela Boudreaux (Tibby) of Carencro; his brother Don Kennon (Germaine) of Lafayette; and his grandchildren, Dustin Wood, Damen Wood, Danika Young, Derek Wood, D. J. Wood, Meagan Didier, Emily Eaton, Elizabeth James, Emily James, Colby Douet, Ashley Ridgedell and Madi Douet. He is also survived by 13 great grandchildren.
