He is survived by: his sons, Joseph Michael Whittenberg, Jr. (Suzanne) and John Rayburn Whittenberg (Joanna); his grandchildren, Amanda Whittenberg Pillette (Trey), Joseph Michael Whittenberg, III (Jay) and Charles Rayburn Whittenberg; and his great grandchildren, Adeline, Carter and Cayden Pillette.

Memorials may be made in Joe's honor to American Neuromuscular Foundation or the charity of donor's choice.
