He was predeceased by: his parents, Sidney VanDyke and Sarah VanDyke (Bartie); his son Joseph Kent VanDyke; his siblings, Ruth Bilbo, Dorothy Bilbo, Rev. Joshua Cleophus VanDyke, Sr., Wilson VanDyke Sr., Rev. Henry Clayton VanDyke and Bryant "Sonny Boy" VanDyke; and his former wife Zerline VanDyke.
He is survived by: his wife Diana Redding VanDyke; his children, Mildred Ann Kennerson (Kenneth), Sarah Mae Bargeman (Clifford Jr), Jacqueline Evette Varner, Denise Varner (Karl), Dr. Gizzatta Cook, Barbara Monica Cook, Myron Craig VanDyke (Anya) and James Earl Varner Jr.; his goddaughters, Martha Malbrough and Barbara Cook; and his great-niece Sharmekia VanDyke-Wilson (Jimmy). He is also survived by great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, July 19th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Greater St Mary Baptist Church (1917 Harless St, Lake Charles, LA 70601). A funeral service was held on Saturday, July 19th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
