He was predeceased by: his granddaughter Madelyn; his parents, Essie King Matherne and Joseph Charles Matherne; and his brother Joseph "Jimmy" Matherne (Joann). He is survived by: his wife Edna Berlin; his children, Billy Matherne (Connie), Brandi Matherne, Gerald Matherne, Jr. (Genevieve) and Nicholus "Nicky" Matherne (Karen); his stepson Charles "C. J."; his grandchildren, Kaleb, Cade, Heather, Thomas, Logan, Kyran, Kylie, Rylie, Landon, Maci, Chad, Shane, Holly, Chaz, Rhiannon and Dwight, III; his great grandchild Jeremiah; and his siblings, Arthemise Pelingon, Hulon Matherne (Deanna), Claude Matherne (Claire), Phil Matherne (June), Lawrence Matherne (Carolyn), Virgil Matherne (Pat) and Lucille Delaney (Frank). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
