He was predeceased by : his former life partner Doris Jean Bates; his son Danny Rood; his parents, William "Bill" Bates and Florence Bates; and his brothers, Garland Bates and Grady Bates.
He is survived by : his wife Carmen O'Quinn Bates of Lena; his sons, William Neal Bates of Lena, Robert Glynn Bates of Goldonna and Charles Rood of Youngsville; and his brother Randy Bates of Lena. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
