He was predeceased by: his daughter Kerrie Anne Gates; his sisters, June Hightower and Cherie Lou Lou Reynolds; and his grandchildren, Christopher Young and Braydon Shipp.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Gates of Dubberly; his children, Jason Gates (Rachel) of Minden, John Gates (Christie) of Doyline, Lacheen Gotshall of Bossier City, Cherie Gates of Minden and Lesa James of Dubberly; and his sister Mary Norsworthy of LaGrange, Texas. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Rose Neath Funeral Home Chapel (211 Murrell St, Minden, LA 71055). A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 18th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, July 18th 2025 from 1:45 PM to 2:15 PM at the Brushwood Cemetery (6320 Brushwood Dr, Dubberly, LA 71024).
