He was predeceased by: his parents, John Luther and Martile Mathewes; his wife Shirley Anderson Mathewes; his grandsons, William Shane, John Charles, John Kenneth, Samuel, Delmer, Boaz and Daniel; his brother Charles Roland Mathewes; and his brother-in-law Drew Shaw.
He is survived by: his sons, Leland Wayne Mathewes of Shreveport, LA, Luther Lane Mathewes of Ruston, Charles William Mathewes (Betty) of Houston, TX and John Thomas Mathewes (Darlyne) of Augusta, GA; his grandchildren, Sarah Mathewes of Houston, TX, Emily (Billy Warner) of Ruston, LA, Carrie (Jonathan Davis) of Augusta, GA, Susan (Branum Vardell) of Augusta, GA, Dana (Scott Stewart) of Gonzales, LA and Michaela (Joshua Manuel) of Augusta, GA; his stepgrandsons, Chris Hayden (Erica) of Haughton, LA and Jeremy Upton (Candy) of Ruston, LA; his great grandchildren, Carmynn, Juliet, Spencer, Ethan Stewart, Bobby Warner, Isabella, Charleigh, Wrenleigh Vardell, Alexis Kindred, Chloe Dettrey and Olivia Hayden; and his sisters, Elouise Shaw of Baton Rouge, LA and Glenda (Don Lee) of Grandbury, TX. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
