He was predeceased by: his parents, Margaret G. Thomas (Driscoll) and Joseph J. Thomas; his son David M. Thomas (Rosemary); and his brother Joseph Thomas (Lorraine). He is survived by: his son Scott Thomas of Brighton; his brothers, Charles Thomas (Helen), Ronald Thomas (Patricia), Edward Thomas (late Sara), Michael Thomas (Denise Capozzoli), Richard Thomas and Paul Thomas; and his grandchildren, Matthew, Samantha, Stephen and Emma. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
