He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Edith Sr. and Edmund "Buddy" J. Friel Sr.; his siblings, Stephen Friel (Judith) of Hampden, George Friel (Elaine Elias) of Arlington, Michael Friel (Susanne) of Bedford, Louise Allwein (John) of Cambridge, Leslie Richards and David Friel; and his siblings-in-law, James Richards of Bedford, NH and Kathe Arendt of Gilbert, AZ.. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
