He was predeceased by: his parents, John E. McCarthy and Mary Alice McCarthy (Doherty); and his brother Charles E. Whitaker. He is survived by: his siblings, Ann E. (Jack Doyle) of South Boston, Peter J. Whitaker of Dorchester, John E. McCarthy Jr. of East Boston, Catherine M. Casey (late Daniel) of California and Kelly P. McCarthy of Braintree. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
