Sidney Anthony Wade Obituary

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend departed this world on Friday, April 19, 2024. Sidney was born on the Island of Nevis, Jessups Village, residing in St. Thomas parish in the Caribbean to James Stephen Wade and Wilma Elvira Mills Hanley. He came to the United States in 1968, where he lived in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Sidney joined the United States Air Force in 1971.

Sidney was later stationed at Hill Air Force Base, in Ogden, Utah. The funny part was that Sidney didn't know what Utah was or even where it was located. He received an honorable discharge in 1977.

Sidney married Darlene Ward. Later divorced. After traveling over 6000 miles, he found his true love, Vicki Marie Ahlander Cordova Wade. Their romance started in 1981. They were later married on November 25, 2003. Sid was not one to rush into anything. On May 6, 2017, their marriage was blessed at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.

Sidney was involved in Soccer in many capacities throughout his coaching career, resulting in various life-long relationships with both the players and fellow coaches. He was a coach for many competition teams and later assisted coaching and training for the Olympus High School Soccer Team with Chris Sonntag. He coached with various coaches in various youth competitions leagues. Sid made sure anyone who wanted to play soccer was able to play and financed many players whenever the need came up.

Sidney was also a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service until glaucoma unfortunately had him change paths. Through the help of friends, family, and the Utah State Low Vision Center, he was able to start his own vending business, My Two Roses, Inc. He operated a cafeteria along with vending at various locations throughout the Salt Lake Valley, and later a deli. He retired from his business in 2014.

Sidney's greatest accomplishments were his children; his twin daughters, Traci Marie Bracken (Brian), Kearns, Utah, Staci Louise Wade (Rick), Salt Lake City, Utah, and his sons; Carl Ward, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mark Garbriel Cordova (Jen) Aurora, Colorado. Along with his daughter, Lisa Paige (George), Brockton, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Trenton, Darin, Kaden, Devin, Anthony, Bryson, Sydnee, Isaac, Charles, Clayton, Jada, Michael, and Lexi. Recently, he was blessed with his first great granddaughter, Ember Louise.

Sidney is survived by his wife Vicki, his children, grandchildren. As well as his sisters; Yvonne Wade, Dorchester, Massachusetts, and Nulma Wade, Nevis, and his brothers; Dayle (Cassidy) and Steven Wade, Dorchester, Massachusetts. Preceded in death by his parents, sisters; Imelda (Molly) de Costa, Eulie (Rose) Wade, and his brothers; Maurice (Dave) Wade, and Wilbur (Lance.) Wade. He is also survived by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, and friends who loved him and he loved them back dearly.

When he was a baby in Nevis, he was given the nickname Willis. He had a lot of cousins, and I mean A LOT OF COUSINS! Most were in Nevis and many live all over the world; he loved them all. Sid also had many special friends in Nevis and enjoyed spending his time with them, teasing, and reminiscing about the good old days. He and Vicki went to Nevis as often as they could.

To know Sidney was to love him. If you asked about his favorite United States professional sports team, the answer would probably be, "The one with the black coach.". He tried to follow Caribbean Cricket and real football (soccer) until his eyes made it very difficult. He loved his island, his people and was proud to be a black man from Nevis. He loved God most of all. After living what he felt was a fast life in his early years, he was determined to repent and "get his soul right". On Sunday, April 14, 2024, he told Vicki, "That if anything were to happen to me, don't be worried about me. All is good with my Soul". That was his clue that he was ready to go on to his new adventure. He worried about those he loved and the condition of their soul. If you want to do anything for Sidney, start working on your relationship with God and get your soul right.

We don't know how to carry on, so we will give it to the Lord, knowing he will see us through.

I love you with all my heart and soul. Go and be you. No more physical pain or limits. I thank God for this man traveling over 6000 miles to a different country and culture to be mine. I've had my perfect love. Rest well my beautiful man. - Vicki Wade.

A viewing will be on Thursday, May 2 from 6-8 PM at Starks Funeral Parlor. Guests are encouraged to use parking and entrance located on the north side of the building. A funeral service will be celebrated on Friday, May 3 at 12:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, 1090 South State St, Salt Lake City. A second viewing will be also be held one hour prior to funeral services at Calvary Baptist Church. Sidney will be laid to rest following services at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 4th Ave. "T" Street Salt Lake City. Funeral services will be live streamed. A link will become available on this page 15 minutes prior to the beginning of funeral services.
