He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joseph Benevides and Sylvania Benevides (Carreiro); his daughter Lisa Atkinson (George) of Fall River; his stepchildren, Lori Almeda of Fall River and Scott Gagne of Peabody, MA; his brother Edgerdo Benevides of California; his grandchildren, Jeremy Atkinson and Marissa Atkinson; and his siblings, Feleciana P. Benevides and Conceicho P. Benevides. He was also cherished by many step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
