Archibald Henry Jones Obituary
Archibald Henry Jones passed away quietly at the age of 87 at Seacoast Nursing Home in Gloucester on May 21, 2026. He suffered the long-term effects of a traumatic brain injury in 2009.
Archie was born and raised on Sargent Street in Gloucester before moving to West Gloucester with his family. He was the youngest son of Henry A. and Amelia (Parsons) Jones. He graduated from Gloucester High School in 1958, where he excelled in the automotive shop. He won an automotive award by taking apart and reconstructing an engine in the least amount of time, with his friend Everett Saywer Sr. They competed against other schools in the state. After high school, he took a job at Ellis Chevrolet in Manchester. While on his way to work one day, he saw a young lady in her yard listening to records. Soon after introducing himself, Marcia (LaPointe) Jones became his wife in 1960. Together, they raised their four children in the Mulcahey family home in Manchester. They would have been married 66 years this November. Henry ended up working as the Parts Department Manager at Sudbay Motors in Gloucester for 50 years. He worked another 10 years after he retired.
Whether you knew him as Archie or Henry, he was the last of the true gentlemen, liked by all who knew him. Cooking was his favorite form of love, and the more people he could feed, the better. He would always bring cookie trays to Sudbay's at Christmas, and some have even said they got a little buzz off of his bourbon balls. Saturdays were yard sales in the morning and family lunches in the afternoon. He was very generous and supportive, and everyone mattered to him. He especially loved every moment with his grandchildren. His face would light up whenever they were around.
He enjoyed setting up at the flea market, photography, gardening, apple picking, eating at the Clam Box, and going to get ice cream with his family.
He was an avid Coca-Cola collector for many years, going to Coke conventions in Minnesota, Washington DC, and Georgia. He always had an interest in his family genealogy and learned a great deal about it. He is proud to be from the original Parsons family in Gloucester. He and Marcia cruised to Hawaii and the Caribbean. They also liked road trips, as he loved to drive. He was a jack of all trades and a master of all. He was a good man and a wonderful father and grandfather. He fought his challenges to the end and never gave up. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.
Archie is survived by his wife, Marcia of Manchester; his daughter Amanda (Jones) and her husband Stephen Twaddle of New Hampshire; son Jamin Jones and his wife, Kristie (Jameson) Jones; daughter Julie (Jones) and her husband, Bill Aubrey III, all of Gloucester; and son Christian Jones of Manchester. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins survive him.
Proud Grampy to Rob and Liz Shelly of New Hampshire, Samantha Jones, Michaela Jones, Adam Jones and his wife Emily, Billy Aubrey IV, Jadin Aubrey and his fiancé Eddie; and his two great-grandchildren, Romeo Saputo and Logan Jones, all of Gloucester.
In addition to his parents, Archie was predeceased by his brothers, Calvin Jones and his wife Elizabeth "Betty" Jones, John Jones, and Harold Jones; sister, Barbara (Jones) Lagos; and his nieces, Linda Moran and Barbara Jean (Jones) Todd.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Seacoast Nursing Home in Gloucester for all of their care and kindness.
