David Philip Curtis Obituary
David Philip Curtis, 71, of Gloucester, husband of Judith A. (Revell) Curtis, passed away at his home, with his wife at his side, on Friday evening, November 26, 2021. David was born in Brookline, MA on April 24, 1950, and was the youngest son of the late Roger W. and Winifred J. (Fountain) Curtis.
He graduated from Gloucester High School and continued his art education at the private atelier of Boston artist R. H. Ives Gammell. David was an accomplished plein air landscape artist and enjoyed being an art instructor to many eager students. He taught classes and workshops throughout New England for almost 30 years.
He was an active member of many art organizations, including the Guild of Boston Artists, the North Shore Arts Association, and the Rockport Art Association & Museum. He served as President of the RAA&M twice, until he had to resign in 2016 due to ill health. He was passionate about his art and loved everything art related. Despite his mother's assertion David was shy and wouldn't talk much, he was always more than happy to share his knowledge and expertise with others. The difficulty was usually stemming the volume and flow of art history and the joys of painting.
David is lovingly remembered by his wife, Judy, his children, Noah, wife Margaret and their son, Arlo of Charlotte, NC; Samuel, wife Caitlin and their son, Ronan, of Greenfield, NH; brothers Alan of Roseville, CA, and William and wife, Toni, of Damariscotta, ME, plus many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sister Hannah J. Francis, and two nieces, Julie Francis and Rhea Whitten.
Many thanks to Caitlin Luti, R.N. for all her help, support, understanding and encouragement during the last few weeks, as well as the staff of the various hospitals and rehabs David was in over the last five months.
There are no services arranged at this time. A Celebration of Life will be planned for the Fall of 2022.
