She was predeceased by : her husband Robert; and her grandson Jason Walker. She is survived by : her children, Jacquelyn Walker, Betsie Ross, Robert L. Bates Jr. (Linda) and John Bates (Alejna Brugos); and her grandchildren, Allison Roberts, Jonathan Ross, Christopher Castleman, Justin Castleman, Lisa Long, Phoebe Bates and John Theodore Bates. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made in Carol's name to Vassar College or the National Temple Hill Association.
